Dragon fruit from Thanh Binh Cooperative and pink lady pomelo from are now available in supermarkets, fruit shops, and a juice firm in Canada.
It is the first Vietnamese cooperative-registered pomelo brand to be sold to Canada. The fruit has also been certified by GlobalGAP by the Ben Tre Green Pomelo Cooperative.
This was Thanh Binh’s third shipment to Canada, but it was the first time it had fully completed a dragon fruit order in its own name, from cultivation to shipping and all in between.
In August, it opened a new packing facility. The elimination of intermediaries is projected to provide more benefits to its members. Both cooperatives have met all of the necessary safety requirements.
Since 2015, the two cooperatives are among five new ones founded under the Vietnam Cooperative Enterprise Development Project in the provinces of Soc Trang, Binh Thuan, Ninh Thuan, Lam Dong, and Ben Tre.
The project, which was funded by Canada and implemented jointly by SOCODEVI and the School of Management for Agriculture and Rural Development II, has helped cooperatives improve their competitiveness through a variety of activities such as farmer training, governance strengthening, equipment upgrades, marketing, branding, and others.
